Manchester City 5 v 1 Crystal Palace
Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho was one of the five City scorers as they put Crystal Palace to the sword, scoring their 3rd goal in the 59th Minute. Crystal Palace were the last London club in the League Cup but they encountered a northern powerhouse in the shape of City, and were duly dispatched from the competition with the other goals coming from Wilfried Bony, Kevin De Bruyne, Yaya Toure (Pen) and Manu Garcia.

Liverpool 1-0 Bournemouth
Jurgen Klopp tastes victory as Liverpool manager for the first time, though his team were made to work for the result by Bournemouth. Bournemouth played well tonight - Adam Bogdan had plenty to do - but they were second best nonetheless, Liverpool by far the better team in the second half, and scorers of a peach of a goal in the first. They’re in the hat for the quarter finals, and the sense of relief around Anfield is palpable. Next stop for Klopp’s team: Stamford Bridge. With the monkey off the new Liverpool manager’s back, and Chelsea having something to prove, it could be quite the clash. Saturday’s a date, then.
Southampton 2 v 1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa cannot work any respite. Three days after Tim Sherwood, the club were keen for a touchstone, something to galvanise them after a traumatic period which has seen them slump to the foot of the Premier League table. Despite the loud imploring of their fans, it did not come. Villa were not bad, and they worked the Southampton goalkeeper, Maarten Stekelenburg, on a few occasions, most notably though Leandro Bacuna and Gabriel Agbonlahor. But they were not good enough and even though Southampton barely turned up in the first half, it always seemed as though they had the greater scope to make the difference, which they did through Maya Yoshida and Graziano Pelle.
