The beneficiaries of the weekend's matches were obviously Leicester City and Manchester United as Manchester City and Arsenal both came crashing to spirited West Brom and Liverpool sides. Leicester and United now occupy the top two spots.
The day's proceedings began at Vicarage road, a difficult place to come by, with Watford hosting Manchester United who were missing Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney, leaving Memphis Depay to deliver up front, and the Netherlands international did so with aplomb, volleying home United's opener from Ander Herrera's cross.
The victory temporarily sent United to the top of the table ahead of the other matches of the day. At the Hawthornes, things looked to be going well for Arsenal when Olivier Giroud's header put them ahead at the Hawthorns, once again thanks to an exquisite ball from Mesut Ozil. The Baggies quickly turned the game on its head, though, as James Morrison equalised before Mikel Arteta's own goal gave them the half-time lead.
Arsenal sought to pull level in the second half and were handed a golden opportunity from the penalty spot after Chris Brunt was penalised for pulling Alexis Sanchez's shirt, but Santi Cazorla missed the goal in stunning fashion.
Leicester doubled their lead through Leonardo Ulloa, and Shinji Okazaki sealed the win late on. Vardy will now get the opportunity to break Ruud van Nistelrooy's record, and fittingly, he will have to do so against the Dutchman's former club Manchester United next week.
A thrilling first half at the Liberty Stadium saw Bournemouth take a two-goal lead through Josh King and Dan Gosling, but the Swans were level by half-time thanks to an Andre Ayew backheel and a Jonjo Shelvey penalty. The Cherries put in a strong showing in the second half, but like their defeat to Newcastle before the international break, they could not find a way through.
Stoke City beat Southampton 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Bojan Krkic. The Potters have now lost just once in the league since September. Ross Barkley opened the scoring for Everton against Aston Villa at Goodison Park, tapping in after a lovely move from the Toffees involving Romelu Lukaku, James McCarthy and Gerard Deulofeu. The match ended 4-0 after Lukaku's brace and another goal by Barkley.
Chelsea recorded their first win in four Premier League matches as Diego Costa ended a seven-game goal drought to give them victory over Norwich. The champions came into the game off the back of a three-match losing streak and were frustrated for an hour by a stubborn display from the Canaries. But the Blues finally broke through when Costa finished off Cesc Fabregas' quickly taken free-kick.
The home side were denied a second when Kurt Zouma's flick hit the crossbar.
But the three points take precedence over the size of the scoreline for Jose Mourinho's side, who now have 14 points from 13 games and move ahead of Saturday's opponents into 15th place in the table.
The last game of the day was the weekend's most awaited; Liverpool at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium.
Klopp's boys were eager to make a statement and Liverpool were ahead after just seven minutes when Eliaquim Mangala turned in Roberto Firmino's cross for an own goal. Coutinho finished a lovely move by Firmino after 22 minutes, and the former assisted the latter for 3-0 shortly after. Sergio Aguero pulled one back on the stroke of half-time with a lovely curling effort, but Martin Skrtel lashed in a vicious effort late on to seal all three points for the dominant Reds.
